Accounting is the profession that communicates the results of business operations. It's a rapidly growing business profession and consistently provides one of the highest average starting salaries for our graduates. Primary careers in accounting include public accounting, industrial accounting, governmental accounting and teaching.

Accounting provides excellent prospects for career employment.

Department of Computer Information Systems

Computer Information Systems students learn to operate and program computers individually and in networks. They receive experience managing data and analyzing systems needs to provide information essential for business. The Computer Information Systems Department has one of the largest faculty of its kind in the nation. If you are interested in computers and business, this is the appropriate major for you. Demand for students with this major is very high.

Department of Finance and General Business

Finance students can choose from a variety of career specialties. As a business financial manager, you are responsible for managing the assets, liabilities and daily cash flows of a business. Careers in investments involve security analysis, portfolio management and brokerage. Other possibilities include management of financial institutions, federal/state regulatory agencies and real estate organizations.

If General Business is your choice, you'll receive a broad education in all aspects of business operations, preparing you for a variety of entry-level management positions in the public or private sector. 

Missouri State offers the only Insurance and Risk Management major in Missouri. Students in this field can assume positions ranging from sales to home office management to corporate risk management.

Industrial Management Department

The Department of Industrial Management prepares managers for leadership roles in construction and manufacturing enterprises. Upon graduation, students are prepared to serve as effective leaders, supervisors, and managers for technically oriented positions in world-class businesses and industries. The programs in the department are accredited by the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT).

Department of Management

Capable management is essential to all organizations, private or public, in all business fields. Managers set goals, map out organizational strategies, and oversee the entire effort of the enterprise. The study of Management is strongly related to the behavioral aspects of people interacting in the workplace. The creative aspects of business ownership and operation are presented in the entrepreneurship program, while the challenge of global business endeavors are studied in the international business option.

Department of Marketing

Every business must know how to effectively market its product or service. The marketing process includes conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of the product or service. Marketing students learn the various tasks that go into this process: environmental analysis, market measurement, product development, packaging, pricing, credit, marketing channel development, physical distribution, advertising and customer service.
